Competition Rules
Each team will be required to start at a given benchmark and follow through a differential leveling course taking them across the campus of The University of Alabama. During this course, other basic surveying events can and possibly will show up to increase the degree of difficulty.
Each team will be expected to know how to properly and efficiently perform typical surveys and gather needed information at the request of the event specifications. Teams will need to be prepared to obtain data throughout the course that is relevant to surveying practices.
Scoring
The event will have a start value of 50 points and will be graded for accuracy and speed. The winning team will not be the fastest or the most accurate team, but the team that is fastest and most accurate. Points will be awarded for early arrival and will be deducted for inaccuracy.
Teams will receive 1 point for every 5 minutes early that they arrive at the finish line. Times will be rounded to the nearest 3 minute interval.

Example elevation of point = 100.7 ft (z)
Example coordinates of point = 294.7 ft, 507.2 ft (x, y)
Example:
Team 1 finishes in 1 hr 30 min
Found elevation: 101.42 ft
Found coordinates: 293.5 ft, 506.1 ft (x, y)
Bonus

Penalty deducted: 101.42 – 100.70 = 0.72
294.70 – 293.50 = 1.20
507.20 – 506.10 = 1.10
